North Lawndale Campus of UCAN
``Pamela Dukes of Awakening Aspiration facilitated a workshop to the Diermeier Future Leaders Now Institute on December 28th, 2016 at the North Lawndale Campus of UCAN. The DFLN Institute is a leadership program for at risk youth designed to engage, inspire and empower them. We had 25 youth participating in this 35 hour leadership program Ms. Dukes definitely engaged our young people by sharing her own story of rising from her situation. She challenged and reinforced messaging we addressed in previous sessions. One way she did this with her icebreaker making sure youth confidently introduced themselves, had eye contact and she provided positive feedback for them in that moment. Ms. Dukes ensured she connected youth by moving around the room. She had them complete meaningful exercises. She listened to them and connected her message of empowerment to their stories and showed them a different perspective of how to handle situations based on their respective stories. Ms. Dukes’ energy was amazing as she engaged them ensuring she rec’d participation from each of them. Ms. Dukes was overall impressive. She stayed beyond her workshop continuing to pour into our young leaders. She not only let them know she cared, she showed it. It is obvious in her workshops this is her passion and purpose. Youth and staff enjoyed her workshop. It was a pleasure having Ms. Dukes present and we look forward to continued collaboration with her and Awakening Aspiration. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of the youth we all serve. ``
``Pamela’s interaction and straightforward approach with UCAN’s Phenomenal Woman Mentoring Group was exactly what the young ladies needed. As I watched the young ladies listen intently and intensely, I could tell that the words Pamela spoke to them about her life story struck nerves but also gave hope to stories that sometimes go untold. She is a light for some that are experiencing similar situations and a voice for those who have learned to put up walls. Pamela’s story is one of victory, triumph, courage, and inspiration. Pamela Dukes’ story is a testament of “It’s not how or where we start, but how far we’re willing to go to get to our destiny!”
